COVID Head or AKA "My hair is having an identity crisis

When the COVID quarantine first started, I settled into the homebound routine maybe more easier than most. I could keep busy with work and writing projects and in some ways I didn't mind what we hoped would be a brief timeout. I don't have much of a beauty regimen 😂 but one thing I have done for the past two plus decades is color my hair. I started when I began graying in earnest. But over the past couple of years, I hadn't been pleased with this process or outcome. For one thing, I thought the color looked really fake. And for another, I was so gray that I had to touch up my roots every 10 days. I think this added to the unnatural look. Thirdly, I am kind of lazy, especially about things like this. Fourthly, I had a couple of friends who grew out their hair to a stunning white silver and they encouraged me to let my colors fly.  So as the quarantine started, it was easy not to color my hair and the roots quickly took over.

See what I mean? So, I decided to go for it and completely grow up (I put up, but I mean out. Paging Dr. Freud? Ha! Yes, my hair needs to grow up and accept its natural color) out my hair. I enlisted help from my hairdresser Maria (see top photo) who lightened up my hair in an attempt to lessen the color line between the gray and the fake, I don't even know what color--ersatz strawberry blonde?

The next feature of my hair I became dissatisfied with was its length: too long and scraggly. I went in regularly to get it trimmed, but it still wasn't quite right.

Then on the momentous day of the Biden-Harris inauguration, I was watching the ceremony. Sen. Amy Klobuchar had a major role as a speaker. As I listened but more watched her on my computer, I thought, "I really like her hair." Ha again. I wasn't the one. I took this photo into Maria and said, can you do something with my hair like this? She said, "Like Amy? We've had several gals want a cut like that." So much for being original. I have a feeling if a few women in one Peoria shop have asked for the Klobucher cut, they are asking for it everywhere (or at least all over the Midwest).

Maria is nothing if not agreeable, and I think she did a great job! Thank you Maria! One thing I am surprised about, after a fast start by the gray at the beginning of COVID, my hair seems to be taking forever to grow out. After a year, I still have a few inches of color left. Oh well, it will be gone eventually.

Hopefully, I will like being gray, and I won't think it makes me look too old. But if it does, I might have to ask for the Klobuchar color.
